I'd so buy a lot of that company's scents if only I didn't have this problem of getting splitting headaches from A LOT of perfumes so I don't want to risk it (a bit too expensive for trial-and-error).
Perfume fandom sounds interesting though.

thats why I dont want any perfumes.

Yeah, I have found a few that I can wear (and that I like, because that's another can of worms entirely) but not being able to smell them before buying is a Bad Idea. There's this online shop where you can buy testers, but even that gets expensive after a while.

They offer sample sizes, at least on some of their perfumes. I personally have found that their stuff lacks the....alcoholy? quality that bothers me about a lot of other perfumes.

If you do ever find something you like, a small bottle lasts a long time.

Hmmm, that actually sound kinda nice, thanks for telling me!
Will have to look into the shipping cost, though - shipping and getting the stuff through customs is often tricky when it comes to perfume.

You may want to look around on LJ for the various BPAL comms (sinandsalvation, bpalmarketplace are two I remember off the top of my head) They're not as active as they used to be but there's still a pretty steady secondary market. People re-sell samples and bottles and such cheaper than they'd be buying through the BPAL website. And a lot of the people on the comms are from outside the US or will have experience shipping outside of the US as well.

There's also the BPAL forum (I think it's bpal.org??)- which does lots of buying and selling and swapping. And there's a huge 'reviews' section which is full of peoples reviews of all the BPAL scents that were ever made...

To add to this I've also seen them pop up for sale on girlsales and mac_cosmetics on livejournal. I'm sure you could also put out a wtb or search through swaps on makeupalley.

Like that other anon mentioned, some people find BPAL less irritating, since it's just blended essential oils without any fixatives. If it's fragrance itself that gives you problems, then you still may be out of luck. If you decide to try it out, here's hoping it works for you!

I'm... actually browsing the shop right now, setting a few bookmarks. /cough

Yeah, I have reactions to most perfumes and many other cosmetic products, but it's the alcohol base and fixatives that actually give me problems, not usually the scent itself*. I've found several BPAL scents I can wear.

*Britney Spears perfumes have something in them that makes an instant migraine though.

I ordered some samples from BPAL a few years back, and it was a total waste of money in my case. They're SO strong compared to most perfumes that I could smell them even with the bottles closed and stored in a plastic baggy. I'd never really noticed that I have scent-triggered headaches before I got those bottles. Needless to say I had to give them away to a friend.

They do smell lovely, but depending on what exactly is triggering your headaches it might be better to skip them.

Thanks to this secret, I checked out BPAL and after seeing they have Fraggle Rock-inspired perfumes, I'm already kissing a chunk of my next paycheck goodbye, ahaha.

BPAL remind me a lot of a case of wine I bought ten years ago, which you'd think would have been all of one value what with being of the same vintage from the same winery, yet with each one a magic puff of opalescent mystery seemed to infuse it with its own genre, its own distinctive yet unpinnable ouvre of musked romance.

I always wanted to own more of them, but they would crowd for space with each other and in the end, the drama of it was all too much and I had to settle for unscented deodorant.

I went through much the same journey with Lush, but with less depth and intrigue and hints of subtle hidden malice past dustdown.

You phrased all that perfectly.

I don't know exactly what it's even saying but I love this comment more than any secret I've seen in months.

I applaud and CP your comment for later chat with friends, anon.

I love Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs. Some of their stuff is pretty much the only perfume I wear, on the rare occasion I do wear it.

I looooooove BPAL. TY secret-maker, this reminds me to go ask on one of the communities I'm on for perfume-related discussion that is primarily BPAL (http://smellsgood.dreamwidth.org/ for the curious) to ask for suggestions. This literally just reminded me I can actually use BPAL again; I'd bought a lot of imps but only could use one or two (rarely) because of my ex-partner's migraines. Since this partner is now an ex, and none of the people I live with have those types of triggers save me (and essential oils don't bother me; just artificial stuff, so I can't use any "conventional" perfumes or the like), I can start experimenting again. YAY.

I've always wanted to grab samplers from their site! They seem amazing, but I've been a bit worried about how the odor will wear on me. Most of the stuff I have either fades off quickly or doesn't end up being the scent in the bottle, thanks to body chemistry. I also end up spending my fun money on hobbies or other nerd things, like secret 12.

I may do research now that you've reminded me BPAL exists.
