Honestly,the term gets tossed around too much. You're not a "fanboy" or "fangirl" for liking one movie made by a certain director.

Agreed. Sadly, that seems to be the lifecycle of words these days. New usage of word comes into vogue; people use it; people use it ad naseum; word begins to lose meaning; the end.

For further examples of words that lost their way, see 'hater', 'drabble' and 'privilege', among others.

...Well, what are you doing that's causing people to call you that? Just like a few his films then you're probably not. However, if you're one of the ones who thinks he's the best thing since sliced bread and/or gets horribly offended if someone doesn't like his work then - You are a fanboy/girl.
