Did this picture come with top gear in the window or did you photoshop them in?

OP

(Anonymous) 2015-04-18 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I photoshopped them in. ;)

I thought James May and the other guy that didn't punch someone just resigned willingly, rather than being fired.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-18 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Nobody was fired, precisely. Clarkson's contract was not renewed. Hammond and May's contracts were also up for renewal, but the BBC hasn't said their contracts won't be renewed so it sounds like they're keeping the door open.

Being the least offensive top gear presenter is like being the least white polar bear.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-18 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Well done, sir or madam. I laughed.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-18 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, fuck Top Gear and the lot of them.

It was a fun show in many ways, but fuck fucking racists. I agree with you.

uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

james may wasn't the one who was sacked

it was jeremy clarkson

all well and good to dislike something but at least keep your facts straight

This!

Plus, it was Hammond who went on the tirade when discussing Mexicans in the first place.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-18 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Regarding the Mexico incident, James May commented negatively on the food. Hammond is the one who started in on the stereotyping of the people, and Clarkson joined in. I guess it depends on whether or not you think a negative (and incorrect) opinion about a cuisine is the same thing as racism.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-18 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
His comment about the food does reflect the general way that it is advertised in the UK though. Refried, covered in cheese, and kind of liquidy. Personally I also think that that makes it look like sick too. I'd let him off on that one. That joke about the car being called the "Dorito" is a bit near the knuckle and I can't say it is exactly pleasant watching him chortle at Hammond's incredibly offensive comments. Hammond was the one that went beyond the pale on general racism.

Here's is the relevant clip

For everyone wondering and wanting to make up their own mind:

Is the relevant clip. My take on it is that May said something, not entirely polite but not exactly offensive either. Then after a bit of back and forth and the usual stupidity, Hammond said some truly offensive general stereotypes, and Clarkson said something that was personally offensive about the Mexican Ambassador to the UK. I'd not let any of them totally off the hook, but the ranking would be Hammond winning the "most offensive git of the week" award by a clear mile, Clarkson winning the "generally a douchebag about an actual person" award, and James May winning the "that was a bit of a silly thing to say" award at the very rear. May's opinion on Mexican food is generally neutral and reflects more his own personal tastes (along with the way Faux-mexican food is marketed) than anything else.

Wow, good Photoshop!

(Anonymous) 2015-04-19 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
I agree with you, OP.

I honestly can't believe some of the show's fans who are continuing to blindly stan for Clarkson after the shit he's pulled.

"Ohhh the poor little baby!"

Bitch please, he's a grown adult. If that was your average workplace, he would have been fired long ago. I don't care how cool or famous or wealthy someone is, they shouldn't be able to get away with assault.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-19 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
It's because we don't hold May responsible for stupid things that Hammond and Clarkson said. Imagine if you were held responsible for every single bigoted thing your family members, friends or co-workers have said over the years. Imagine losing your job because someone you work with said something racist, because that means ALL your jobs are racist and you're obviously racist because you work with someone who said racist things.

Does that seem fair now? Would you be okay with people not supporting you because some of the people you associate with are jerks?

Transcript

Image: a cartoon drawing of a guy looking at a laptop, smiling, while the Top Gear guys look in the window behind him

Text: I remember hearing a long time ago about an episdode of Top Gear that had a particularly racist review of a Mexican automotive brand. I read the transcript for myself, thought “damn, this is pretty damn offensive, and I’m not going to support this shit.” Never had any interest in the show after that.

Although I’m not really that jazzed at the number of supporters that James May (the person who started the racist tirade) still has fans that think of him lovingly. I am still pretty happy that at least he got fired, even if it took an entirely separate (and still controversial) incident to finally do him in.

TL:DR --- I’m happy that Top Gear is going away, becsuse I can’t support a racist person.

P>S> Thank you, wikiHow artist, for your delightful illustrations, no irony

Meh. You sound like an SJW idiot. Not to say that the Top Gear crew aren't offensive. 'I don't like Top Gear because they have said racist things' fair enough, but really, frankly, your sweeping statement of 'I can't support a racist person' is a bit beyond the pale.

There are much, much bigger things going on in turn of race issues than Top Gear FFS. If you're pouring all your passion for this cause into hateboning on one program, then you're doing it wrong.
