So I was super happy when they showed Dany post sex and she was doing the modesty/cover-up-my-chest-with-the-blanket thing.

Like way to go showing that most of the boob shots are completely gratuitous as well as backing up her whole no more nudity clause that was publicized awhile back. Of course there were a lot more other boobs shown that episode, but still. It's a small step for a show that pretty much requires all of its main female cast members to get naked at one point or another while artfully camera angle censoring the dudes.

And then the first result I hit today while googling Peter Dinklage?

Sex sells. And people watch GoT to see boobs and beheadings.

People repeat "sex sells" ad nauseum, but the top-rated TV events are things like the World Cup, the top-selling game franchises have no sex in them whatsoever (Mario, CoD, Tetris, Pokemon, etc.), and the ten top-grossing films of all time barely even have boob (Gone With The Wind, Titanic, The Sound of Music, etc.). Is that catechism actually true, or is it just something people say that has no basis in reality whatsoever, because it seems truth-y?

In regards to advertising, yes (at least for men).

Are there actually studies that demonstrate this, or is this just "common wisdom" in the advertising business, though? Car commercials, for example, moved away from sex aeons ago and started emphasizing "freedom" and construction aesthetics, to the point that they're even starting to remove "booth babes" from vehicle exhibitions and replace them with "aspirational" classy-looking men in suits. And that's one of the most male-driven markets out there.

I think the correct phrase would be "sex sells things that don't have any other worthwhile qualities".

True, but this one seems especially entitled? At least more of the comments are to the tune of "lol whatever dude."

Like, it's not like boobs in general have gone away. As I mentioned in my comment, there were plenty of other boob scenes. But no, this one, particular woman hasn't shown off her breasts to the world in the past season or so. THE HORROR.

This comment makes me think of people who freak out and say their childhoods have been destroyed because something got re-made.

"The boobs are all gone! BOOBS ARE RUINED FOREVER!"

Er, I've watched the leaked episodes and I'm pretty sure the show writers made a deliberate reference to the Daenerys actress no nudity clause in extremely poor taste.

I haven't watched any of the leaked episodes yet. Don't have time for a marathon + don't want to binge and then have to wait a month.

I hope it's not as bad as the Cersei rape scene from last season at least?

I wouldn't compare the two, this one just left a bad taste in my mouth because of its stupidity and inaneness.

Besides that, there is again a number of redundant brothel scenes etc., but I got used to those. Well, I don't have very high standards when it comes to GOT ;)

Sadly, the only male nudity we get to see is chests (they're everywhere) and butts (usually for only a few seconds). Frontal male nudity is this huge no-no everywhere and gets things an X rating a lot of the time and/or censored out.

The only thing i can remember recently having male frontal nudity in (and it's not even recent) is 'The Piano'. Harvey Keitel got nude in that.

Shame has Michael Fassbender completely nude (also in Hunger). Tom Hardy's penis is all up in Bronson (also in this short film he does, which you can find online). Also, you see Theon's junk in Game of Thrones.

Yeah, I think GoT has shown a total of 2.5 dicks?

There was the guy who tried to poison Dany in season one; he got dragged naked behind the rest of the khalasar.

man this really frustrates me. not because I care much to watch nudity but because of the awful double-standard. Guys don't want to see dicks (that would be gaaaaaay), they want to see boobs! And we all know it's all about what the guys want...

at the same time, there's a sports Youtube / television show host that I follow, named Katie Nolan, who's really sharp and cool and generally has her head screwed on right, and she was actually doing the JUST SHOW US THE BREASTS thing on a video.

it was just surprising to me, i guess, because you don't expect to see someone just straight-up advocating that point of view these days (especially a woman). just kind of fucked with my preconceptions.

I'm pretty sure that's satire.
