I don't know that I'd compare the two because they are very different in tone and TWD is much farther in it's run then Z nation. If we're talking about just the first season I'd argue that Walking Dead has a MUCH stronger opening.

Z nation is fun, a little inconsistent but I hope season 2 just improves upon it.

They are very different in tone. That's actually why I prefer Z Nation. Walking Dead got too bleak for me; everyone's getting raped or killed. I don't see any hope for the characters.

Z Nation is just fun and I'm not worried that everyone will die horribly at the end.
