I'm surprised, too. I know the manga is twenty or so chapters ahead of the English translations, maybe that has something to do with it.

I agree with the Miaka/Tamahome thing. I really like how Yona/Hak's relationship is developing. Yona and Hak are also great characters on their own.

Yes anon let's talk about this *v*

You're so right about Yona and Hak! I think part of what makes their romance an actual possibility (even though I'm not 100% behind it, I don't /entirely/ ship it, but they are definitely a way more viable ship than lots of others in anime) is that both of them have their own development, and are interesting characters on their own. And there are some aspects of their relationship that I really like - like how gleeful Hak gets when Yona succeeds at things, and how he likes to show her off. It's adorable.
And I love how Yona is really finding herself.

...lol sorry I have a lot of feelings about this series XD

It's fine! I stumbled onto it and binged watched the whole season in one sitting, haha. Yona/Hak hits all the right notes for me. I enjoy that while he does tease her, he's not overly obnoxious about it like other characters tend to do in that trope. I also like that Hak encourages her, even if he doesn't want her learning how to use a sword. (I'm not into incest ships, so Soo Won isn't my thing, plus the whole going to kill her thing kind of soured me on their relationship)

Normally I don't end up liking every main character, but I ended up liking all of them. even Tae+Yeon. His character development was adorable, and I can't help but liking the dork. I'm noticing that Yona is making allies with a lot younger people than Soo Won is, Tae Yeon and the water tribe leader's daughter. I wonder if that'll be a thing when she moves on to the Earth kingdom.

Total yes about the teasing. And what I like even more about it is that Yona KNOWS that Hak likes teasing her - she even tells Kija not to mind him, because Hak is 'like that'. To me, that elevated Hak far above the standard in so many series, where the love interest will be a jerk and treat the heroine badly, but she loves him anyway (I hate that shit). Here we see that Hak... well, he's a *bit* of a jerk, but he's truly just teasing as opposed to being an asshole, and Yona knows it.

Ugh, I really hope Yona/Hak is endgame and not Yona/Soo Won. I get why she's still hung up on him - I like that as part of her character development. But no for a ship.

What I think is cool about Yona is that you really see how she inspires people around her to become better than they were, which is something that Soo Won isn't so strong at. tbh, with the two of them leading in some capacity, Kouka would be very strong.

Who's your favorite dragon, though? Mine is Shin-ah (he's adorable and hits all my angst kinks >_> though I really wish he had more screentime), with Jae-ha as a close second. Jae-ha is hilarious. I mean, they're all hilarious. Like you say, this is a series with the biggest cast of likeable characters I've seen in a while.

Yeah, Shin-ah got a bit more stuff to do in the manga (I'm so impatient, since there's so many chapters I haven't read yet, ha!) If I had to pick a favorite it would definitely be Shin-ah. I feel so bad for him, and Ao, too.

I love when Yona inspires/intimidates people! Her pirate arc was so good. Her attachment to Soo Won is a little annoying now, but I like that she admits it's not right, she just can't help it. And the subtle shift towards Hak is great. Her getting jealous, but not being clingy/lashing out at Hak is nice. (I had to stop watching Crystal because Usagi's lashing out about Chibi Usa is just ugh, it's so much worse in the manga than the 90's version)

The yellow dragon is kind of a mystery now, I'd like to see what his gift is.

How far have you gotten in the manga? It's been scanlated until 82 or something, I think, but I've been reading ahead in Japanese and am currently at 96.

I loved the thing with Tae-Jun! He's such a dork, and he was a great example of how he was basically a lousy person and Yona used her connection with him to inspire him to be better.
And yes, I love how she's not clingy :D (though I admit the will-they-won't-they can get a bit old. At this point it's obvious both are interested, but neither will speak up because of silly reasons). Really, the characters in this series are so great.

I can't believe the anime stopped where it did - like three chapters later in the manga we get another mini-arc with Shin-ah and it was so good T^T Shin-ah's frigging adorable.

I think we start finding out about Zeno's power / backstory from around manga chapter 98 or so - I'm almost there! Fight~ haha.

83 yeah, I noticed there were some summaries, but I couldn't find anything for 84-90 and didn't want to skip ahead. The anime did end way too early! It'd be nice if they got a second season.

I'm hoping Yona throws away the hairpin at some point and confronts Soo Won. I wonder if her father really did kill his brother, though that's no excuse for what he did.

I may need to skip ahead after all, haha
