I had a seminar once about the origins of english and we covered all exinct side branches of the whole germanic family. I fell in love with Þ, too. ("ye olde" being a misrepresentation of Þe olde! mind blown!)
I also considered learning gothic, back then.

I've got a book on the language now, and am trying to study it. Old English ought to ba doddle after that, considering the verb tense and noun declension structure got radically simplified by the time OE got written down.
