GOOD cosplayers I have great respect for; they invest enormous amounts of time in being a cartoon character, but they do it well and they put a lot of love and detail and time into their work.

Kids who put on a beige jacket and pretend they're a Naruto character and expect respect or, God forbid, ATTENTION for that? No. They're creepy.

Fat pimple-faced dudes dressing up as little girl characters? Giant whale chicks dressed up in Sexy no Jutsu/Animal Costumes/Bikinis? Sure, I'll give you that much.

But most cosplay is not creepy at all. In fact, GOOD cosplay is pretty amazing, to me anyway. I'm constantly surprised by the beautiful work that comes from cosplayers on a daily basis. I don't see where you're getting that from at all.

If adults dressing up in costumes is considered creepy now, you must not be a fan of renaissance festivals, movies and theatre with non-modern settings, halloween, masquerade balls, clubs, bands with costumes... The list goes on and on.

It might be creative. I give them that much. In fact, one of my best friends (yes! Imagine that!) cosplays on a regular basis.

The difference between them and the person in my secret is that they're a) actually TALENTED in pulling the costumes together and b) not a whiny emo faggot who throws a tantrum/whores for attention the second something doesn't go their way.

Seriously, it was long due. The shitty cosplay assaulting my flist outside lj-cuts was just the last straw.

Also,

I'm not. Any of these instances are creepy to me.

But there's still a time and a place, and living in a town regularly assaulted by shitty cosplaying (and generally atrocious behaviour by said cosplayers) in the middle of the street - a normal shopping street, at that - made me bitter. And rightfully so.

ETA (so to speak): And pretend that just didn't happen. LJ is full of fail today, too.
