The first one was a freakin' huge letdown. As that was what the movie was mostly based on, I would have to say that the changes made the film less muddled, which doesn't really say a lot since the book's storyline and character development was flimsy to begin with.

Pretty much. But it was also a pretty stale delivery in the movie, too. The humor was part of what propelled the first one forward, and it really fell flat in the movie.
