I don't hate him with the intensity of a thousand fiery suns, but I never really saw what the fuss was all about, regarding his works. I was meh about "The Fault is in Our Stars," meh about "Looking for Alaska," hated, hated "Paper Houses," and couldn't finish "An Abundance of Katherines." He's just too in love with the Manic Pixie Dream Girl trope. He claims he's deconstructing it, but if that's the case, he does a terrible job at it. Unless deconstructing now means "playing it completely straight with no sense of irony and no one pointing out what an awful person said MPDG is." I swear I've never been in favor of violence against women but the only reason I made it to the end of "Paper Houses" was because I was hoping someone would smack Margo and call her on her bullshit. The way the book is written, we're supposed to find her lying and vandalism and destructive behavior funny and charming, but I kept thinking of her parents and all the people who have to clean up after her shit.

na

I'm not in favor of violence again anyone but, yeah, Margo needed to be slapped. What a wretched character
