Re: Question about autism and.... not sure what the correct term is

The correct term is always what someone prefers, and it never hurts to ask what that is. The official language used to describe the condition is now autism spectrum disorder rather than separate categories for autism and Asperger's syndrome.

In general, the best thing to do in that situation is to stay calm and not to draw any special attention to it. Sometimes with outbursts there can be the tendency for people with ASD to flail their limbs so in the future it might be in your best interests to step away or behind them so as not to be collateral damage. Your friend clearly has the ability to calm herself, so again it might not be out of line to ask her if there is anything she would like you to do.
