Have you watched Clone Wars? Since it's a TV show, they have a lot more time to get into Anakin's issues and plant the seeds of his later actions with the Jedi.

I've watched the first two seasons. The rest is high on my list of things to watch, but I'm working through Rebels right now.

I recommend watching the rest of Clone Wars before the Rebels finale. I mean, you don't HAVE to have seen the resto of CW, but it makes a couple things better.

If you haven't read it, the Rebels prequel book, A New Dawn is also pretty fun.

I just read A New Dawn, which is actually what made me push Rebels to the front of my watch list because I fell in love with Kanan and Hera.
