This is how I feel about JK Rowling. Is it a kind of genius that you can make so many fascinating minor characters...or a kind of failure that the more you write about a character the more boring they are?

(Anonymous) 2015-04-22 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
A combination of both, with a little bit of "main characters have conventions they have to follow" - at least according to the publishing industry, from what I understand.

I think part of it is that main characters have more details filled in, so they seem less "mysterious". That's not quite the right words, but you know.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-22 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I dunno I think Hermione is interesting, but Ginny, ugh so many issues with her.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-23 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
I have issues with Hermione and find Ginny much more interesting.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-23 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
I feel like Ginny's development didn't make any sense, their whole romance frustrated me.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-23 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's just something that inevitably happens to main characters, I can't think of any show I've watched where the main character has been more interesting than the supporting cast. Part of it must be over-exposure, another part is that side characters are allowed to be more flawed or complex.

I agree...but she'd probably wreck them if she wrote them more. Fanfic writers can probably do them more justice.

Jasper/Alice ftw
I also love the vampire dad, Carlisle? him and his wife are too good to be true and I kept expecting them to be evil but then I remembered this isn't Anne Rice.

Edward can be dull but I don't hate him especially after discovering he was a 100 years old virgin who had lived all these years in a house full of couples that had vampire sex (they never sleep) non stop so he had to play the piano to keep himself company. Poor guy.
Being a vampire truly sucks. And now he's stuck with Bella and their weird daughter and weird future sdon in lkaw (and past lover of his wife) for the eternity.

*son in law

I still cannot see Robert as Edward. From the description I think he was supposed to be this young inhuman beautiful boy with blondish red hair, he was an etereal creature. Like a model for a perfume or an elf or an english prince or something.
Something a bit like that http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_loluzae7AU1qgn2tio1_500.jpg

I remember that before the movie was made the fans kept fancasting him with Gaspard Ulliel. Now that's hot! He's serxy but boyish

I dunno but Robert is monofacial and he'll always be Cedric to me

All the vampires are shit in the movies. The make up is horrible.

Martin Sheen?

I know have a very strange image of Josiah Bartlet as our first SparkleVampire President in my head.
cloud_riven: Stick-man styled Apollo Justice wearing a Santa hat, and also holding a giant candy cane staff. (Default)

their names all sound the same lol

Aw nooooo me too now :( he would be such a dreamboat Volturi boss ♥

*Martin* Sheen?

(Anonymous) 2015-04-23 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
I think you meant Michael. Because, dude, if President Bartlet played a sparkly vampire, I might have actually watched.

Oh man I'd totally forgotten all the fanart of Gaspard Ulliel and Emily Browning at Edward and Bella!

(Anonymous) 2015-04-22 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Ehh, SMeyer's characters are all pretty uniformly terrible, when she bothers to write them as distinct people at all. If she gave the side characters the same page time as Edward/Bella/Jacob, they'd all be pretty much the same flat and awful person, distinguishable from the next only by a few superficial informed traits.

Image: the cast of the Twilight with Edward’s face X-ed out

Text: I would happily spend money on published books in this series as long as Bella, Edward, and Jacob weren’t in them. Everyone else is actually interesting.

also Rosalie/Leigh y/fy

I agree, except I liked Jacob (when he isn't being influenced by Meyer's disregard for abusive behavior) and Alice sucks.

I would totally read a spinoff just about Alice and Jasper (as long as she kept them Alice and Jasper, and not turn them into another Bella/Edward)

Any fic recs? :3

Cracked.com has a bit of an outlet for this

Have you considered reformatting this secret a bit and entering it in their latest Photoplasty? It sounds like it might be worthwhile.

(I want to enter, but my idea is for a TV show and would make anyone involved in social justice chatter lose their shit.)
