Revisiting old favorites?
(Anonymous) 2015-04-22 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)I'm replaying the first Wild Arms right now, and goddamn, I'd forgotten how much FUN it is. Not to mention the awesome soundtrack.
Re: Revisiting old favorites?
Despite some wonky SFX and 60's values, still holds up.
Re: Revisiting old favorites?
Though, on revisiting the LOTR fandom, I fell in love with a completely different character!

The Sims 2 is still one of my favorite games ever and I'll constantly go back and play it.
Re: Revisiting old favorites?
Final Fantasy 7 was one of those that actually got better with age: with a ton of life experiences since I'd last played it, seeing the game's story with an adult perspective -and thus, picking up a ton of stuff that went over my head initially- really made the game even better than before. And while I will always have a soft spot for Aerith, Tifa became my all-time favorite character in the game (with Red XIII coming in a close second). I wish I could track down some ancient fan fic from the pre-Compilation days (I recall there were a couple good fics by a Princess Artemis, I think. Haven't been able to find them, though), but I'd imagine it'd be awkward re-reading a lot of FF7 fanfic that came before 'Advent Children' and the Compilation in general.
Final Fantasy 8... not so much. I didn't really get very far before Squall and Rinoa annoyed the tar out of me, so I just stopped and have no intention of going back to it.
I'm planning on revisiting the Legacy of Kain series at some point. Gonna have to go the ROM route for Blood Omen (due to Legal Hell involving Crystal Dynamics and Silicon Knights, they can't re-release it on Steam or GOG), but I'm hoping Soul Reaver 1 + 2 and Defiance will have held up. (I won't go anywhere near what remains of the fandom, because uh, it's awkward for me 'cause I was an annoying little snot in it back in the day, ahaha)
And F-Zero GX is still as frustratingly fun as I remember, but boy, some of the character designs just do not hold up 11+ years later. The soundtrack is still one of my all-time favorite video game OSTs, though.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-22 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)Even more so, though, I'm in love with the world itself. It just feels so rich and alive to me.
Re: Revisiting old favorites?
What kills me is that, before they settled on using Vincent Valentine and made 'Dirge of Cerberus', we almost got a game centered around Irvine Kinneas... considering Irvine is my favorite character in the game, learning that gutted me, ahaha. Alas!

Re: Revisiting old favorites?
The fic might not always be that good but I still think it's fun and it gives me something different to read for a change as well.

Re: Revisiting old favorites?
And this is just shippy fic, I don't know how much GEN the fandom has or if it's any good.
Re: Revisiting old favorites?
Some have held up. Others have not.

I'm just now getting to the episode where Chibiusa shows up, which means Mamoru is going to breakup with Usagi soon. There are no words to describe just how much I still hate that plot line. I'm not sure if I'm actually going to be able to watch the whole way through, or if I'm going to have to skip several episodes to keep from breaking something.
Re: Revisiting old favorites?
Played Day of the Tentacle again not long ago too. If I hadn't grown up playing what are frustrating adventure games today, I bet I still would have played it just for the writing. Still. Funny.
Oh yeah, I reread Legal Drug to see why on Earth I was so hyped for that disappointing continuation (Drug & Drop). It's enjoyable. I loved it at the time for being a shameless slash teasing CLAMP comic, and the last arc is my favourite of them. But totally an "it was good for the phase I was in at the time" thing.

Scrubs is god damn amazing.
Re: Revisiting old favorites?
Been rereading some Chesterton recently and it holds up just as well as it always have - the same problems, but also the same enjoyment.
