Ever had that?

I have it every time a Tumblr darling does something Tumblr deems bad, and Tumblr has no idea how to respond. It happened a couple months ago with Anthony Mackie, and it is happening now with Chris evans and Jeremy Renner (who I still love).

The whole culture of black and white, people are devils or angels, causes some fantastic wank.

Wait, what happened with Anthony Mackie? I saw him at ECCC (or rather, I sat in on some of his panel) a couple weeks ago, and he seemed like a pretty chill kind of guy.

Was it the DUI thing maybe?

That was a pretty dumb thing to say, all right, and his idea of gender roles for both women and men are very dated. No, I don't want my man to smack a guy if he says something to me on the street. My man will have to hold ME back. No, I don't care if a date asks to go dutch, I think it's very sensible though I must point out that it's polite manners to pay if you're the one issuing the invitation no matter what your gender is.

So if my guy wants a sandwich, he makes his own goddamn sandwich because he's fully capable of doing so.

I got the impression that he was half-joking about the way the question was asked. Clearly he thinks that relationships should be a give and take, but the question was asked in such a way (men and women's ~~~~roles~~~~), that it begged for someone to be accidentally sexist, so he responded in an exaggerated way. And then everyone seemed amused, so he played it up. He was using a different voice and everything guys, come on.

Oh, yuck. This is worse to me than Renner and Evans. It isn't just an offhand comment. It is genuine belief in gender roles and is kind of gross.

I don't think people get the concept of disagreeing with someone's actions and even thinking it is racist, sexist, or whatever and also not thinking they are entirely evil. I think that what Evans and Renner said was sexist. I also still like them in spite of that.

I don't think it was particularly nice but I don't really see it as misogynistic.

I got the impression that Renner was satirizing the fact that she's basically been paired with or teased with all the male avengers except Thor. And then Evans guffawed loudly in shock that Renner actually said that.

Eh, whatever.

It wasn't a funny trainwreck, just a really really sad one. I skimmed through to see if it got funnier, but it's just... depressing. Makes me feel slightly dirty for rubbernecking.

if you look at some of those people (ivorylungs, Taikosomething), you can see they are pretty damn hypocrtical of them.

that is insane. I guess it's a good thing I never got that into cons and panels.

Some people need to spend more time in the real world as opposed to sitting behind their computers.

I feel awful, because I used to follow a few of them and always thought people were sort of unnecessarily rude to them. I had absolutely no idea they were such awful people.

Eh, I'm not a fan of what was said but at the same time celebrities are just people too and really shouldn't be put on pedestals.

What did Chris Evans do? Is it about the Falon "I like to fuck girls in the butt" thing, his drunk antics this PR time, or something new?

Personally the wank usually gets so out of hand and people will never let it go, so I don't get delighted when the fandom explodes. I don't want to always go into a thread and have the first comments be "ok but it/they are problematic because of this this this" and it derails any discussion.

I absolutely love it when a Tumblr darling doesn't something *gasp!* human and flawed and Tumblr goes full tilt banana sandwich over it.

I'm actually kind of glad it happened to a PoC this time. Not that it'll knock Tumblr down a peg, they're far too self inflated for that, but it is a point in the right direction, that anyone can be flawed and make mistakes, not just white people.
