I mean, it was clumsily written, sure, but to me, it seemed less like she was saying "yep, you're genderqueer, surprise!" and more of "okay, so there's a word for this, and because I live with you and talk to you all the time, I think it might apply to you."
There's a world of difference in the "outed" characters' reactions, too. Bobby's reaction is along the lines of "no no nope I do not identify that way, deny deny deny!" and the webcomic character's reaction is literally "there's a word for it. omg, there's a word for it."
Which might be clumsily written, but strikes a chord with me, as I have had that moment myself.
