The Prince's evil uncle figures out her curse, and then commands her to kill the prince. There's a dramatic scene when Char asks her to marry him, then she starts crying and he hugs her, and she goes to stab him in the back with a knife. Then she sees her reflection in a convenient mirror and goes "you will no longer be obedient!!!" and breaks the curse.

That's so fucking stupid! The whole POINT of the entire book was Ella overcoming her curse through sheer force of will, and the dire straits it took to force her to that point! That ending takes away all of Ella's agency! It takes away her entire journey as a character!
WHAT THE EVERLOVING FUCK. WHO CAME UP WITH THAT? WHY?

The whole beauty of it was that it wasn't even an immediate threat - Ella realized that her stepmother and stepsisters would manipulate her, and what a threat she would be to the kingdom, and her big victory was refusing to marry him despite truly wanting to - and despite being ordered to do it.
Ella tried the mirror-thing like on page 1 and realized it didn't work.
That movie makes me SO angry.
