Lately, I can’t bring myself to judge people’s taste in music based on the musicians themselves.
I can still say things like “this song sounds boring”.
But I’ve started feeling for fans of popular targets for hdu listen to this person who did/does iffy things, or is tacky, or is a sell-out, or whose face I dislike etc. tirades.
This happened after rediscovering fandoms for my old faves (who I still like), and some self-reflection.
I think a lot of fans will jump ship once what they like is outweighed. It’s just that different people have different levels of tolerance. I’m not defending celebrities who consistently do shitty, harmful things. But when it’s not at that level...there definitely are fans capable of not handwaving away everything negative.

Good for you, OP. Everyone has to find their line in the sand where the stuff that doesn't cross that line is water of my driveway.

It's interesting how my line changes depending on the industry. For music and movies, random stuff doesn't bother me as much. Authors who say something shitty makes me feel bad things about their writing.

There are some musicians who are shits or have said/done shitty things where I didn't LOVE their music, just liked it, and now it's soured too much for me. But there are others where I love their music so much I'm always going to enjoy listening to it, even though I know they were shits.

I find it harder with movies, and people who are outright vile abusive pieces of shit, like Woody Allen.

Woody Allen is a terrible human being.

I always hated questions about what do I listen to because I'm clueless about music and don't really listen to it. I've never got a significance of liking the same group.
