You got balls OP, I'll give you that. If you managed to get it to work, well done.
Personally I prefer Black Flag, 3 and Revelations. (Mostly for Constantinople)

I've played Revelations six times just for the scenery. God, it is beautiful.

I recently replayed it for the same reason. (Hell, it's my headcanon of a middle ages Coruscant)

Eh, idk. There are people out there who really love Unity [I do - and I'm not the OP!], it's just that a lot of people still think of the bugs and that soured them on the game, understandably.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-23 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't think it was too bad, but I didn't really have any issues with the technical aspect of it though (at least not until the very end when the sound and subtitles both decided to drop out.) so my first experience was a lot better than it was for a lot of people.

But I was super annoyed with anachronisms in the game, some of them super glaring (I know it's not meant to be 100% historically accurate, but it's still annoying), and how they treated quite a few characters (especially Robespierre) that I spent too much time being annoyed and didn't really enjoy the game. This is a lot due to the revolution being a thing that I have studied a lot and have a lot of feelings about though.

I have to try it again some time though, and just try to set aside the things that annoy me the most.

Having not played yet I can't comment on Unity but seeing as Assassin's III is one of my favorites, most people probably think I have shit taste too. (Granted, I LOVED Black Flag's gameplay and secondary cast, but it was well into the game (almost end-game) before I warmed up to Edward, so that put a bit of a damper on it. Assassin's 2 was pretty perfect imo.)

(Anonymous) 2015-04-23 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Guess I have horrible taste as well, because 3 is my favourite. I haven't played Black Flag because there's too much water and I have a thing about water, but the non-playable characters do look very interesting (and some apparently show up in Rogue maybe?).
elaminator: (Assassin's Creed 3: Connor - Bow)

[personal profile] elaminator 2015-04-24 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
I LOVED climbing trees and building up the homestead. The gameplay was solid in 3 as well but Connor is the main reason for my fondness. (I adore Connor and love his story. Everything with Achilles gutted me and left such a mark. Plus...the ship sections were really fun, and I loved the missions.)

Black Flag was excellent game-play wise; it had a lot going for it and the secondary cast was great. Blackbeard was incredibly charismatic and James Kidd is one of my favorite Assassin's characters. I seriously loved them and wish they would get their own game. There were some damn impressive storytelling moments in Black Flag, but most of them came later in the game. It's not my favorite, but I like it.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-24 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I love Connor. He's fantastic. I felt more for him than any other character in the series. It's a shame he's not present in any other game; I swore to myself to quit AC after Unity (franchise fatigue, and all), but if he comes back then that's a vow I'll break in a heartbeat.
Also, I really want to play Black Flag now! Who knows, maybe it's a good way to get over ichthyophobia. I don't mind a bit of wait to get to the good bits of a story. Damn it, I'm going to do it.

Connor is so under-appreciated. He just wants to protect his people! (Ezio started out for Revenge, Edward started out for Greed, Altair was a smug asshole at the beginning too...he's a nice change of pace from the others. He might not be the sunniest character (though he does have hidden depths! The homestead scenes show that much) but that's who he is and how he's been raised; he's different. Plus the language is SO interesting and cool to listen to. The VA's were great too. (I'd love to play another Connor game, but I fear this is unlikely.)

I'm sort of stressed about you saying you're going to play it...lmao. If you do I hope it doesn't freak you out too much! (There are a few sections...where I think you might have some major trouble with. Underwater diving sections. I think most of those are optional though, so you could probably ignore them?) Of course the game is set on the sea and there is a good bit of swimming, but not much of it is deep in the ocean.

The good bits are really good and the ending made me bawl. It was a fun journey despite the fact that Edward wasn't the most likable character. (And on reflection, because of that. You'll know what I mean if you play.)

I liked three, not my favorite, but it was fun.
elaminator: (Assassin's Creed 2: Ezio)

I am always pleased to meet another AssCreed fan who doesn't despise Connor or Assassin's 3. Sometimes it feels like there aren't many of us.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-24 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
AYRT

I think we've actually talked about it before!

But yeah, Connor's great. I just think it was because he came right after Ezio - and that any character right after Ezio was going to have trouble with how popular Ezio is. It probably didn't help that he's the opposite of Ezio in a lot ways [if nothing else he's very Stoic where Ezio...wasn't, at least not for the majority of his run].
elaminator: (Assassin's Creed 3: Connor - Bow)

[personal profile] elaminator 2015-04-24 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that's part of it too. Ezio is a hardcore fan favorite, he had three games centered around his life and development and if you went into AssCreed 3 expecting similar treatment you were going to be disappointed. Connor is his own person and his story has a vastly different feel to it. That's what I LIKE about it; I didn't just want a rehash of Ezio.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-24 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
3 is my favourite, too! I haven't played Revelations, Rogue, and Unity yet, but boy do I love the Homestead so much. People say that Black Flag is the best entry in the series, but somehow I'm struggling through with it.

So, I have probably a shittier taste than you.
elaminator: (Assassin's Creed: Leonardo - finger wag)

[personal profile] elaminator 2015-04-24 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yayyyyyyy, another 3 fan! I LOVE the Homestead. As fun as Monteriggioni could be, the Homestead had an entirely different feel to it. It was awesome getting to interact with everyone and help them out; it really made Connor feel like a part of a big, extended family/community.

IMO Black Flag is great game-play wise and some of the characters are fantastic (Blackbeard and James Kidd) but Edward is a total let down until later in the game. His story just isn't that intriguing for me until then, but from that point on I adore the way things proceed.

(You have BETTER taste.)

(Anonymous) 2015-04-24 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Same here, OP. Admittedly, I started playing after they'd done several patches so I missed a lot of the technical issues [not all of them, just the major ones people point to] and I adore Arno and Elise. That plus the really interesting time period just does it for me.

Text: This is my favorite game in the AC series

(Yes, I’ve played them all)

(Anonymous) 2015-04-24 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Obviously there's good reasons for the later installments' poor ratings (relative to the first few games), but tbh every AC game brings something different to the table that'll resonate with people in different ways.

Brotherhood is my favorite, because I loved Rome as a setting and seeing how Ezio's bonds with other people developed and changed. (And I didn't enjoy Revelations because that established bg cast isn't there and as such I found the entire game felt sort of lonely and sad.)
