Well, Natasha/Bruce is one pairing without an existing fanbase from the comics or the earlier movies (unlike Natasha/Clint, Natasha/Bucky, Natasha/Matt (from Daredevil!), or Natasha/Tony). So it throws people for a loop because it's new and unexpected. I have enough of a crush on Ruffalo and his version of Banner that I kinda think it's cute....

But it is definitely new and different, and comic superhero fans hate that, I guess?

I feel like I should stalk all AOU threads to spread my theory that Banner is the most attractive Avenger. Because he is.

Slight spoiler maybe...

I was skeptical because of the whole "does she have to have a love interest?" thing but actually thought how they did it in the film was sort of sweet and subtle. But it isn't a happy resolution overall. Just to warn people.

Also I'm sure I'm not the only one who felt they were sort of flirting in their first scene together in Avengers? It wasn't totally out there as far as a development goes imo.

I have no dog in this fight btw. I know the people I ship Nat with ain't gonna happen in canon!

I'm actually less mad about her than I am about another randomly added relationship in the movie that is clearly just there to fridge the new character. That was out of the blue and made no sense.

I'm not super shipper of any of the pairings, but I dislike it because they threw out so much Clint/Natasha in the first Avengers film that it feels weird for them to randomly throw her into a new pairing with Banner. I've also seen the spoilers for the scene and it seems so one sided that it makes me kind of irritated they threw in this plot. Thought that could be just that persons perspective, I'll have to wait and see it. Especially considering I believe this is Joss's last film to direct, and who knows what the new director will want to do? I don't see why it was thrown in.

I didn't get any Clint/Natasha from the first film. I got that they had a history, yes, but if I was rocking that pairing, I'd be more annoyed about the spoilers related to Clint than a new Bruce/Natasha relationship. Let Natasha bang the hot doctor and leave her alone, m'kay.

Psh, don't you know the only way a man and a woman who are both attractive are allowed to be friends or trust one another is if they're romantically involved?

Honestly, unless something happens in 'Civil War', I doubt 'Infinity War' will leave the Russo Brothers with much opportunity to do a whole lot in the way of romance. But hey, one movie split into two films... who knows.

I don't know offhand how many people picked up on a few vibes that were in the first movie - I did enough to write one double story for Bruce/Natasha but other than that I went completely over to the Clint/Natasha side of the village. So I'm disappointed that apparently I won't get more Clint/Natasha fodder, because I love that pairing. But I'm also vaguely patting myself on the back for dipping a toe in that pond early. And Ruffalo is completely adorable. But it's a strange feeling to have a ship overturned.

On the other hand I don't understand how Natasha's character is altered at all by this. She's awesome no matter who she's with or isn't with.

Natasha/Bruce definitely gained a following after the first Avengers movie. It was only ever a small ship, as far as I remember, but it's untrue to say that no one shipped it prior to AoU.
