Speaking as a fan artist m'self (I only draw, because I don't do meta and I gave up writing fan fic long ago), I really hope you keep at it, OP. IMHO, there's a certain joy in drawing the characters, world, et al that inspire you, and/or being able to articulate certain ideas or concepts of a fannish sort. I hope you find a similar joy in it as well.

And please don't let the fear of the judgement of others IRL stop you, if at all possible. It's an intimidating fear, I know, but please don't let it hinder you in paying tribute to the things you love. (I feel you, too. Hell, I'd only recently finally let some people I know IRL see my artwork, and that was only 2 pictures I'd printed out to have autographed at a con last month)

p.s. And you don't need a tablet to draw, either! Heck, traditional (fan) art is just as awesome, and I really respect artists who can draw incredible things with traditional mediums. But you'll find the medium that works best for you, I know it! :>
