Un(der)explored subplots/characters for any medium

(Anonymous) 2015-04-23 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
This Cracked Photoplasty topic caught my eye today (http://www.cracked.com/forums/topic/200905/10-winner-macro-contest-movie-subplots-more-interesting-than-movie/0), but I realized that my idea probably wouldn't work since it's for a TV show. Plus I'm not sure I feel my graphics skills are even remotely up to snuff. It still made me wonder what people here would like to see more of from movies/TV/video games/whatever you like. I'll post my idea momentarily so it properly collapses.

I'm confused... can you elaborate?

CLARIFICATION Un(der)explored subplots/characters for any medium

OP here

I don't know if you checked out the link. If not, I'll provide an example. Take the movie Airplane. There was the main objective of getting the plane safely on the ground and Ted battling his demons, there were lots of other characters with interesting stories begging to be told. For example, what else did Dr. Rumack do during the war? For another (perhaps more unsettling) example, why did Captain Oveur make such lewd remarks to Joey when Joey visited the cockpit? Which characters do you think deserve their own feature?

I always wondered what was the deal with Almost Headless Nick in HP.

What do you mean? It was explained in the books why he was nearly headless and what-not. Or are you referring to another aspect of his character?

Right! My bad. I was thinking about ghosts getting some sort of resolution, Headless Nick and Moaning Myrtle. And why Peeves could move objects. And how much of the people is left in their talking portraits.

Ohhh, gotcha. Yeah, I wish there had been a little more focus on the ghost characters too (especially Moaning Myrtle. Like, did her parents ever know that her ghost was in Hogwarts and go visit her? Or did no one tell them that their daughter became a ghost because they were muggles? That's always bugged me and I can't remember if the book mentioned anything about it). idk if there's been any pottermore stuff about them

Huh, not telling Myrtle's muggle parents makes sense. I didn't think about thar.) Muggles see Hogwarts as an abandoned castle after all, so I doubt they'd be able to see Myrtle's ghost.
In the Black Mirror series the robots that are programmed after real people create many problems, as some people become addicted to spending time with the coppies of their dead loved ones. I imagine something simillar can happen in HP.

At least three of the top ten comments in any plasty with 'movies' in the title will be bitching about how half the entries are from TV shows. I don't think the people who title/judge the competitions are actually aware that they're separate media. Enter your idea with pride.

OP here

As soon as I figure out a to-the point way of conveying how Cam and Arastoo's relationship is worthy of its own series, I'll get right on that. I could go on for days about why I feel that way and need to rein it in a bit. (Taht said, given that people are actively supporting shows that are predominantly non-white in terms of cast, I feel this pair should be explored a bit more in depth.)

And you're right about Cracked's lack of distinguishing between movies and TV for the Plasty contests, but I'm kind of anal about rules. Between my work history in enforcing a lot of policies and running writing contests, that part of me just hasn't worn off.

Honestly, from what I've heard from my friends, they basically read through Twilight because of this reason. They were really curious about everything BUT the main plot and characters!

As for me, I have that relationship with my personal book Twinkies: the Touched By An Alien series. They are so dumb, and so absurd, but the minor characters are all really interesting! The main character's parents meet because Mom was in the Mossad and Dad was a civilian trapped in a coffeehouse shootout, and they ended up behind the same table and fell in love. Seriously, I want a book about THEM, not their daughter Kitty Katt (yes, really) falling in love with the totally human alien named Jeff Martini. (YES REALLY.)
