Your moment of zen

What do you do that calms you down? Not necessarily 'makes you happy', but gives you a sense of peace with yourself when you need it. Me, I like to go for a long drive in the country with the windows down if it's warm enough. No particular destination, just drivin' and being alone.

A mug of tea, a joint, and a long, hot bath.

Taking a walk at night, like at 3 or 4 AM. There's no one out, everything is silent, it feels like it's just me and the city.

Or a cup of tea when it's raining or snowing outside, and just sitting by the window looking out.

Every Wednesday the practice rink at my school has free skate. I'm not great at ice skating but I can stay up and go forward, and so I just go and circle around. I don't talk to anyone or anything, just let myself be with my thoughts for an hour. It's kind of meditative for me.

Breathe. Try (mostly fail but try) to stand outside of the situation and be impartial.

Take walks and listen to music. Back home, I'd take a nap in a hammock. But I don't got one here.

I take a nice bath with bubbles and candles and music every Sunday before starting my work week.

In the winter, I'll knit and watch movies.

In the spring/summer, I'll take walks around my town's park with my headphones in.

Hot chocolate, painting my nails, or a hot shower.

Taking a walk. Park, trails, downtown, whatever, and enter buildings willy nilly (this one hospital downtown happens to have the best cafeteria food. Taco poutine!). If I especially prefer to not be around too many people for sidewalks, I'll be wandering around away from places with higher congestion, so lots of neighbourhoods and sketchy zones.

Watching boring crime solving series in a bathroom. Bonus points for a cup of tea.

Grocery shopping past midnight. It's late so the walk to the supermarket is completely quiet and peaceful, and I have the store to myself when shopping. Then I usually buy some sort of sweet dessert and eat it when I get home.

We read James Herriot, or Frankenstein's Family, or take a walk around the pond. No matter how tetchy I am, it calms me down.

Nice cup of tea. Or a walk in the woods, nothing hardcore. Just getting out into nature and preferably away from people.
