I have absolutely nothing against Natasha/Bruce. I actually think it's really cute and I love it from a fan perspective.

But it kind of irritates me that the movies HAVE to put romantic/sexual subtext with her and basically all the Avengers.

Tony obviously hit on her.
Then she kissed Steve.
And she wore the arrow necklace (which basically everyone took as sign for Hawkeye)
And now she's in a relationship with Bruce.

And it's just like...can't she just have a normal friendship with these guys WITHOUT an undercurrent of sex/romance?

That and I wish they'd done more to set up Bruce/Natasha...it just literally came out of nowhere.

In that youtube link up there, I believe Renner said it best.

Given her backstory, it kind of makes sense that she CAN'T have normal friendships. Which is sad.

But I don't think that's what the screenwriters were going for, they were just pairing people because that's what you do in Hollywood, apparently.

And it's just like...can't she just have a normal friendship with these guys WITHOUT an undercurrent of sex/romance?

Perhaps it's wrong of me to say this but...

It's Scarlett Johansson. She can't do ANYTHING without an undercurrent of sex/romance.

1. Tony hits on any hot thing that moves? It's more of a comment on Tony than Natasha, that.

2. Natasha is the quintessential "femme fatale". She always has been. To make her anything else would be to completely betray the character. She has two skill sets. And, yes, one of them involves sex and sexual allure. Nothing wrong with that. The "kill people quickly and silently" one wasn't going to work very well in the middle of a mall, so she went with the other. NONE of the rest of tWS implied any sort of romantic attraction between the two. The very next scene after the kiss was her trolling Steve about relationships, and not because she was trying to start one with him...

3. "Love is for children. I owe him a debt." I wear a bracelet my best friend gave me after a time when I was thinking about hurling myself off a bridge. Doesn't mean I want to bang her.

I don't even know how this goes in AoU. I am not one of the few people who have seen it. That said, there is plenty of setup in The Avengers. More than many movie pairings get...

She's basically the only woman in Avengers. Of course they're giving romantic hints in every direction. That's what American movies DO.

(And if you want to get all meta, I don't know how you can even count the kiss with Steve since being sexual without attaching emotion to it is something Black Widow does as a matter of course)

Also, considering I almost never ship anything (romance is literally the least interesting thing about any story or character to me) and even I saw some hints of Bruce/Natasha... I'm not sure if "literally came out of nowhere" is entirely accurate.
