?

I think they're wonderful counterpoints to the OT and enhance the story.

OT = story of justified, band of brothers rebels throwing off authoritarian empire

PT = story of manufactured political war with apathetic citizenry with mass produced armies occurring at the behest of politicians and corporate interests

OT = friends, forged through battle and sacrifice and idealism

PT = cloistered order of arrogant monks

And so on and so forth. I think the contrasts and the parallels between the PT and the OT really give them a greater depth.

ayrt

Those are pretty cool points. Perhaps I should try watching the movies staggered, like, episode 1, episode 4, episode 2, episode 5, episode 3 episode 6?

You could. There are some cool parallels and reinforcing points.

One of my favorites is how much more cold-blooded Darth Vader is in Episode V because of the PT.

You know how he tortures Han and Leia to draw Luke out of hiding? (He doesn't ask them any questions, just hurts them to lure Luke).

Well...think about how he knows that.

In episode II, his mother was tortured and he had visions of it in his sleep. And he tried to ignore them until it got so bad that he went after her. And her death led to his first foray into the dark side.

That he would use that pain, the knowledge of what it can do, and the incredible trauma of his mother's loss to try to emotionally manipulate Luke is very compelling from a characterization and story perspective, IMO.

I never thought of it that way!

The correct, Internet-endorsed watching order is 4, 5, 2, 3, 6

My preference is chronological order.

I'd be PISSED if someone showed it to me in that order. Miss out on Qui-Gon? He's one of my favorites.

chronological internally or externally?

(Anonymous) 2015-04-25 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Internally

TPM --> AOTC --> ROTS --> ANH --> ESB --> ROTJ

I think the OT films really benefit story-wise from having the PT films as a counterpoint.

It's a shame that the movie he's in is - with the best will in the world - the worst in the series. And it's not close.

Does Liam Neeson even kill anyone in the movie anyway? I'm not talking droid-mooks, I mean real people?
