I can't believe that after setting up Derek leaving to take a job elsewere, they chose THAT as his exit!

What happened? Did he die

Car accident and then botched medical car that left him on life support. Meredith has to choose to take him off the machines.

Was that planned, or did something OOC happen with the actor leaving his contract or something?

Supposedly he was a "diva" and the writer (who I guess is know for kicking actors to the curb) threw him under the bus. I'm not really a Grey's fan, just what I heard. It was supposedly in that ET magazine interview that leaked before the show aired yesterday.

I don't believe the diva accusation. My SO was an extra in a movie with him and he was very kind and personable to everyone. The other "name" at the scene kept four guards around with explicit instructions to maintain a five foot perimeter at all times. Dempsey ate with the extras, spoke about how difficult the acting life could be but was very encouraging to others, advising them to pursue their dreams and be grateful for any success.

I think he got on someone's bad side and this is the result.

From what it said the diva-ness just started this season. Sounded like it was just a front because he wanted out though? Though who knows?

It was probably Shonda Rhimes. It seems like you get on her bad side you get written off badly. Kind of like Katherine Heigl. I get the actors were bitchy, but she sounds cold as hell to always kill the characters off and has an inflated ego herself.

yeah, that's what happened with George's actor and he was literally thrown under the bus. his OTT death still ticks me off tbh

I am actually fine with it, I would rather have him dead than just leaving Meredith and the kids to never return for work or a new flame. I'm not happy he won't be around anymore, but it is okay I understand it, just like I got the Christina thing and I am slowly getting over the Lexie and Mark thing...

I think it;s just a shame because it's screwing over Mer's character. She lost so much, doesn't she have trust/people leaving her issues? Not that him leaving for someone else is so much better, but the writers for the show seem so OTT dramatic vendetta when they want to get rid of a character and it's a dominion effect of FML-ness for those left.

For some of us life tends to suck, then it just sucks even more. Someone is just really, really unlucky. Not to the same degree as the Grey's people, but still.

I'm the same way.

Everybody's howling about him being killed off, but I honestly would hate Derek's guts if they took the route of "government girl IS his new soulmate and he leaves Meredith and the kids to go be with her."

And as someone who has been trapped in their own mind, unable to speak due to brain damage, they portrayed that shockingly well, in my opinion. Lots of things in this episode would have sent me over the edge a few years ago, it was that good.

I actually applaud whoever write the episode, whether it be Shonda or an underwriter. Bad things happen to good people all the time.

I also kinda hope that resident transfers hospitals. She deserves to be in a place where women doctors are respected (wait'll she gets a load of Bailey XD).

Exactly, and we know Meredith will manage she said so herself "I can live without you, I don't want to, but I can." so even if she and everyone else will be very, very sad she is more equipped to handle life without Derek than the other way around. Also I can't imagine that man leaving his children.

I really liked the episode too, it was a good episode with a sad ending, but that does not make the episode a bad one. And as you said bad things happens all the time, people die.

Oh she really does! I hope so too, it would be kinda interesting seeing her at The Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, but I don't know if I want that or not.

Talking about things, there is a chance Meredith is pregnant and I haven't decided if I am "happy" about that or not.
