The "I would never hurt you" sounds like emotional manipulation to me. And he's also trying to scare tactic you with supposedly going to the cops, which I don't believe he did because they would have shown up and questioned you about it given a knife was pulled.

Is there somewhere else you can go live, even just for temporary to let things cool down? I'd get out permanently if you can, because it sounds like a very bad situation waiting to detonate.

Unfortunately, I have to live with him for the next 2-3 years. I'm about to graduate at the end of this year so hopefully I'll be able to find a job and save up for a place to live.

Oh, yeah, it was absolutely emotional manipulation, haha. He also asked me: "Are you happy now? Do you feel guilty?"

No, I don't. I'm still mad as hell. He's pulled this same shit once before towards my mum, and towards my sister - standing over them and screaming. I'm the only one who's pulled a knife, though.

Doesn't excuse my actions, but I was reacting out of fear because I was afraid he was going to hit me. He was acting out of anger, because... somebody tried to take his phone away.

That's still a ways away. I would get his antics taped, just in case you every need to document it with the cops. I wouldn't wait two to three years though, get out whatever it takes as soon as you graduate. Abusers like that will just try to keep playing with you and force you into staying with them.

My moms friends a good example. Her brother basically made her into a mother figure, was always getting her to run away from home when they were teens, forced her to stay by his side because "she was the female and had to obey the male". He'd smack her around into submission, and use scare tactics to keep her around. She did get married later in life, and he went out of his way to find dirt on her husband and forced her to get a divorce and move in with him. He now beats and rapes her and she's just like him blaming all her problems on everyone else, and a horrible abuser of people.

This is an extreme case of course, and differs from yours. But idk the lesson is don't stay around fucked up relatives longer than you have to, because they will find ways to keep you there.
