Fun little trivia: Actual Gay Men(tm) have way less anal sex than slash fiction would lead you to believe.

Well yes, but saying "buttsex is gross" seems rather judgemental. You could as easily say "I don't like buttsex, it doesn't turn me on."

Kind of how some people will say vaginal sex is gross.

But it's largely semantics.

If we're getting into semantics here the word "buttsex" itself does not refer to homosexuality in any way. Straight people have buttsex too. And yes I do find it gross as well, but hey, to each their own.

Sorry, but they said buttsex is gross within the context of talking about slash. Semantics don't cut it. Neither does talking about personal preference. Saying buttsex is gross is a flat out judgment, not a statement of personal preference. Next time they should try "I don't like reading buttsex."

I can't take anything they say seriously when they have such conflicting stuff going on in their head. Is fetishizing okay if I hate reading buttsex?

Well honey I'm not gonna present my opinions gently wrapped in flowers just to protect a stranger's feelings on goddamn F!S.

And I fail to see how my argument about fetishizing ties into this. I was referring to a culture where LGBTQ relationships are viewed like some porn spectacle instead of actual human beings interacting. I've seen it enough to have grown sick of it.

Most slash fic isn't even explicit though.

Even then, lots of fic with sex scenes spend HUGE amounts of time building the relationship, getting the characters together, or having them overcome hurdles together.

I'd hardly say that's indicative of viewing them through a porn lens. I don't watch much porn but I don't think they spend nearly as much time on the plot.

I can't. On one hand, you are vilifying the sexual identity of the portion of the gay population who enjoy anal sex as part of their sex lives by saying their sex is gross, because god forbid you should "pretty up your language" to say it's just you who feels that way as a personal preference in your reading, and on the other hand, you are trying to defend the LGBTQ population, you noble warrior, against people writing them as a porn spectacle (though of course, it might be a personal preference of the writer). How can you hold these completely contradictory thoughts in your head at one time? It's a miracle of science.

As an actual queer man, I have to question where you're getting your information from.

Sure, not all gay men enjoy anal, but that's kind of an individual call, you know? There are gay dudes I've known who have exactly as much anal sex as someone's slash fiction fantasy gay man would.
