Re: Webcomic Rec!
(Anonymous) 2015-04-25 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)Two girls in a strange school. Draws heavily on mythology and folklore. Reminiscent of Harry Potter (but there are no wizards... as far as I'm aware.) It's recently gotten REALLY SAD. Also, the art changes DRASTICALLY from Chapter 1 - it gets a lot better!
Trying Human
UFOs and Area 51 and interspecies romance. I'm not a huuuuuge fan of the art style (it's very anime-inspired), but the central mystery is interesting and the whole concept is really unique.
String Theory
This one's about an evil genius set in an alternate-history 1950s, I think? I haven't caught up with it lately, but yeah, give it a go.
Seconding the recs for Oglaf and Manly Guys Doing Manly Things, if you're after funny. I also like Kate Beaton's stuff.
shit, there was this werewolf comic I read ages ago, and it was amazing, but I can't remember the author... sorry, maybe someone here will remember. It was all in sepia, and had historical notes to it and everything. :(
also there was this other fantasy comic that had amazing art and three different storylines going at once - a king-dude who was going insane, a vagrant tree-girl, and a cowboy lady. that sounds really weird, but it was so good.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-25 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)And the second one is The Meek at http://www.meekcomic.com/
(which has been on hiatus for several years, but is supposed to startup again in may.)
Re: Webcomic Rec!
(Anonymous) 2015-04-26 12:53 am (UTC)(link)Man, it's STILL on hiatus? Aww. I won't hold my breath for it starting up again. :(
Well, at least the creator actually said it was on hiatus. Rather than Tessa with HINABN just up and disappearing...

Re: Webcomic Rec!
(Anonymous) 2015-04-26 03:05 am (UTC)(link)I was pretty damn pissed when I heard about how other fans who'd bought stuff had gotten screwed over.
For me, the appeal was the art style. And, I guess, the potential that was there for the characters - so many unknowns. Plus I like weird magic-y things. Such a waste!
Re: Webcomic Rec!
I haven't heard about the fans getting screwed over. Tell more?
Yeah, the art was definitely eyecatching, but that sporadic update schedule really kinda threw me. And there are plenty of beautifully drawn comics that update sporadically that nobody has ever heard of.

Re: Webcomic Rec!
(Anonymous) 2015-04-26 06:33 am (UTC)(link)At first everyone blamed the company she was working with, but eventually it came to light that she was flaking out on it (for whatever reason that might be... stress? mental break? who knows), and had done this before with at least 2 other comics.
I think eventually people were reimbursed their money.
Re: Webcomic Rec!
That's really shitty though, screwing up the merch like that. Like, I get the difficulties of doing comics with severe mental issues *points at self* but that's why you try to learn your limits and work within them, so you don't... you know, drop project after project.

Re: Webcomic Rec!
Alien Lizard and Human Teen romance ahoy!
