Well, never say never on the finding people to be close to, anon. They're rare, to be sure, but people (especially young people if you don't mind my saying so) seem to think that friendships are something they establish early on and if you miss your chance, that's it. That's not how life works, though. People will naturally drift in and out of your life until the day you die, and you'll always need to exercise some effort to meet new people.

It'll be okay. Expand your interests and your social circle, you're doing what everyone else is doing.

Yeah, I think you're right. Other people's relationships look that way to me. But I guess if I really knew their lives, for every current friend they've been close to for years, there were multiple they drifted away from.

Got to get out of my shell someday, might as well do it soon.
