Text: I tend to avoid watching interviews of famous people I particularly like.
I'm fine with reading text based ones, or transcripts.
I'm fine with audio.
I'm fine with gifs from interviews.
I'm fine watching them present stuff.
I'm 100% ok with interviews of celebs I don't care for the same way.
The ones I like aren't even that bad as interviewees.
It's just...an odd feeling. Like I'm embarrassed to see them like that.

I think you just get second-hand embarrassment OP. It's not that uncommon to be honest.

Me too. Very much so.

I think I know what you mean. There's definitely people where I feel the same way, esp writers / musicians. Part of it is I want to be able to draw my own conclusions from their work. But also... I think it's specifically them dealing with interviewers. Because a lot of interviewers suck and it's almost frustrating having to go through the lens of the questions and interpretations of the interviewer. Does that make any sense?

(Anonymous) 2015-04-26 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
This makes sense to me, especially when I know the actor has been asked that question a thousand times before and must be sick of answering it but is trying not to show it. And often interviewers ask boring, obvious questions, and it frustrates me that they could be asking something different and interesting and aren't.

Definitely! It's so lifeless a lot of the time.

The other thing that kind of bothers me is when it feels like the interviewer is trying to force things into some angle that they've already picked out. Or putting a huge spin on everything.

I agree with both you. you nailed it.

Part of the reason why I hate interviews is a lot of people come across as really fake and you can tell when interviews are super rehearsed.

Going to shows in person did not help me with this, a few actors came across as VERY STRANGE in person to me.

ROFL you can't just leave that hanging! Deets?

(Anonymous) 2015-04-26 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
AYRT It's not anything really super interesting it's just that there are a lot of things in their behavior and body language that does not come across as much on screen. Like there are just some actors that feel a little off, or like they aren't in touch with reality, or that they are really heavily into drugs.

I mean people pick up on that stuff some, but in person it was just jarring to see how strange they were.

I think it's also partly because chat shows are just a performance, so it can seem a bit strange, they aren't being real. I've been to a few chat shows in the audience as well, I know what you mean.

Same. It gives me second hand embarrassment so badly.

I don't watch many interviews either, they often feel too rehearsed or the questions asked are so samey and boring that I just stick to reading transcripts of them instead.

I love watching interviews, but only of my favorites. For the bigger press tours there's so many it can be hard to keep track of them, so it isn't a regular thing I do.

Sometimes it can be a bit awkward if the interviewer is asking dumb or embarrassing questions, but even when that happens watching the actors react can be fun. (Especially when they have a sense of humor about it. James McAvoy in particular is hilarious in interviews.)

I get it, cause I'm sort of the same way. If I'm really attracted to a celebrity, I get uncomfortable watching their interviews. I feel like a creep, getting to know them in an entirely one-sided and voyeuristic way.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-27 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
I'm like this as well. I will download interviews and appearances and those sort of things, but I'll never watch or listen to them. Which I know is really weird. But there you go.
