Yea...do you (OP, of course) even want to be more involved in fandom? You say you admire people who hone their skills through fanwork but you can appreciate others skills without being interested in cultivating your own.

Some people don't possess the skill and some don't have any desire to contribute. Some want to but don't have time. Whatever is okay.

The only way I've 'given back' to fandom has been by commenting and occasionally drawing/writing/posting (which was a long time ago) so I guess my involvement is mostly passive too, but I don't mind. If I knew of a good way to do more I might consider it, but... *shrugs*

I genuinely think commenting here (or making secrets) IS a contribution, because all comments help keep FS going, and I don't like tumblr so this is one of my only fandom corners left.

I absolutely agree, which is why I mentioned commenting! If no one made secrets we wouldn't have anything to comment on (I should make more, tbh), and if no one commented...well, the comm would be dead. I love the comm so the more commenters (anon or otherwise) the better.

Outside of commenting I'm pretty passive in fandom, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.
