It was all jokey, but I had a teacher who compared herself to God and us to Adam in that picture on the Sistine Chapel ceiling, specifically pointing out how unsure Adam's eyes are and how frustrated God looks. According to her, she had all this knowledge for us, and we were considering whether it would be more fun to spend the day at the beach. (This was the teacher who disappeared from the school and had all her classes canceled after an unspecified "incident.")

Yeah, that attitude was one of the things I hated MOST about higher education. My personal best wtf story was the time one of our friends collapsed in the dorm hall after a Japanese exam. She had pneumonia, but wasn't allowed to reschedule her exam, and if she didn't do it, she'd flunk. So she staggered in, raging with pneumonia, blundered her way through the exam, and collapsed outside her dorm room, too weak to open the door.

We left her there. It was the honors dorm; we were used to that shit.

And that's why I should never, ever go to school again. I didn't like the sort of behavior and mindset I developed there.

Even as a complete stranger, I am glad you are no longer in such a toxic environment.

That's the sort of story my classmates joked about- I had no idea it happened for real! D:

Yup, it happened for real. And this wasn't even one of the REAL hardcore schools, just a public uni in Texas.

And I bought into it wholesale. *shudder* I thought that succumbing to sickness or shit was just a sign of weakness and character. I was doing fucking HOMEWORK the day after I got married. (Thank god that when hubby started getting upset, I realized how horrible I was being. But that was the only homework assignment in my entire college career that I intentionally didn't finish.)

I am not proud of the person I was while I was in school. I know why I was that way, but I never want to be like that again.
