Outdoor kittens. They poop in my front yard, harass the humming birds and I'm perpetually afraid one will go in the backyard and the dog will kill it. Urgh.

I don't think anyone should leave cats outdoors unsupervised. The same way I think dogs should either be inside or in fenced yards. It's unsafe to have pets wandering around where there are cars and other animals.

Try telling this to anyone who lets their pet roam everywhere and kill things, and they will act like you're taking away their personal freedom. They seem to be the people least likely to desex their pets, too.

It's one step away from being the type to not care about leaving them behind when they move or driving them out of town and "releasing" them because they've grown too big.

I agree. Had an ex housie who was in denial about her cat hunting until the cat started bringing them inside! And another ex housie is finally keeping hers inside - after two deaths by car and a third who got some uber rare but fatal cat disease from cat fights. Abd do many pus filled cat fights. I am thinking I told you so's so hard at her.

Even if your cat is a nice cat, you can't guarantee that other cats they meet will be, or that they'll be safe in traffic.
:( poor kitties.

Do they have collars? You could contact the owners. Say "you might want to watch your cats around my property because I have dogs in the backyard who are not cat-safe." You could even open with something like "is your kitty lost? I found him in my yard!"

Unfortunately though belladonna is right that if you complain about the poop or the bird-harassing or anything else they will probably not take it well. :/ My parents bought a house recently (haven't moved yet) and have two greyhounds, which are probably among the least small-animal-safe dogs you can find, and some of the new neighbors complained because they have outdoor cats. But the greys are never, EVER, EVER outside the house without either a) a fence or b) a leash, for their own safety more than anything else, and if a cat came onto their property, how can they be responsible for that? Dog is staying in dog's own yard; cat is not. It's sticky because I can understand wanting to keep things the way they are, but letting a cat (especially one with a poor survival instinct) wander outside carries risks, including that dangers not previously present might appear (such as someone moving in with dogs). I can see both sides because my ex's family has (had? I don't know, haven't seen them in ages) two indoor/outdoor cats who were wonderful and usually stuck around the house (also neutered, fully vetted, still had claws, etc.) - but some cats do like to wander and range far away.

/long comment is long.

(But seriously any animal that POOPS IN SOMEONE ELSE'S YARD, if the owner won't take responsibility and clean it up, they're being a diiiiick.)

On the plus side the poop doesn't stay for long when the dog finds it...(shudders)

I know who owns the kittens I'm terrified of the dog getting - she's already roughed up one and I explained. Seems they've got another one? Or always did but now it is checking out the yard and I'm trying to persuade it that this yard is scary STAY OUT. It's a teen abs lives with a small dog so not much brains.

Front yard poop and bird cats don't officially have an owner - they are ferals the old lady across the road feeds. I'm thinking I might buy some plants cats don't like and plant them along the fence line.

Forgot to mention - in my front yard? Got some plants poisonous to pets. That's why they're in the front yard - so my guys don't get them. Can't stop roaming cats when I'm at work or asleep!

I think all the cats are moving in cause they've reLised the previous owner and her old tom cat are gone - but are unaware of the large quiet dog with high prey drive!

I'll feel sad if she does get one of them but I won't take responsibility. My pets stay to my land :/ cause consequences happen otherwise.

Also we live 15 metres from a highway.

ah, if it's feral cats...there's not much you can do. Other than see if you have a catch-and-release spay/neuter program in your area.
