So I'm guessing the hate and anger comes from you feeling shamed because you can't/don't want to cook and/or you're overweight? Or what?

(Anonymous) 2015-04-28 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
But don't you know that you have to be rich and leisured to learn how to cook? Because it is really, really hard!

(Anonymous) 2015-04-28 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah! I certainly didn't have to learn how to cook because my family was too poor to buy takeout or ready made meals.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-28 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Obviously you're either lying about being able to cook cook or lying about being poor. You can't be both.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-28 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know what it's like in your country, but where I live I can feed two and get leftovers for about the same money or less that I'd pay for one frozen ready made meal. I'd be able to make at least six meals for the same money I give for one kebab or pizza.

Where do you live? Have you actually tried searching for recepies for cheap dishes? Or what about those coupons I see US Americans use on tv where they get half the store for no money at all?

I just don't buy that you would have to be rich to be able to cook.

I was the anon you were replying to. Evidently I don't do sarcasm very well.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-29 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
Oops, haha!

Oliver's approach does nothing to help people who can't cook much because of disability, and his "cheap and quick meals" often require owning expensive kitchen equipment. He also pretends to be working class when he's not, and is a patronizing knob.

Well, what do you expect him to do to help people with disabilities cook? He can't magically heal people.

And what expensive kitchen equipment are you talking about? Except for a blender (whick doesn't have to be expensive, if you can afford a video game or a DVD box set you can easily buy a blender or a staff mixer), you can do all the cutting with a knife and a cutting board, even if it takes a few minutes longer. I only have a set of knives, a staff mixer and a cheap pestle to prepare my ingredients with, and I still manage to cook home made meals every evening.

As for him being a patronizing knob... what does he do to come across that way to you? Do you think teachers are patronizing knobs as well?

"Oliver's approach does nothing to help people who can't cook much because of disability..."

I don't sit down for an hour to listen to someone talk about the positive effects of running and how to get the most out of your daily runs, only to complain afterwards about how that didn't help me at all because my back and knees can't handle running. I listen to someone who talks about good training for people with bad backs and knees instead.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-28 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
But that would mean passing up an opportunity to feel offended.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-29 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
It's only hard if you can't afford to buy a mandolin for slicing/julienning veggies or a VitaMax. Or if you have NO time for food prep/cooking.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-29 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
*mandolinE

There's an E at the end. Doh!

(Anonymous) 2015-04-29 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
Dreamwidth autocorrects it.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-29 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
because you can only slice vegetables with a mandolin! trufax!

and a lot of the people who whine about how "not everyone has time for food prep/cooking" seem to have plenty of time for wanking on social media
