You should look out some of the early stuff. Jamie Delano and Garth Ennis' runs were great.

It's a great comic that has had relatively few lulls in quality, IMO

I grew up a Marvel kid and my friends have been preaching the love that is Vertigo and DC. The story telling and general ambiance are just something else. Where have they been all my life? ♥

There's a lot of good stuff in the back catalogue too, like TRANSMETROPOLITAN and PREACHER and a whole scad of short series. Brian Wood's DMZ is worth a look too - Brian rocks mightily XD Anything by the delovely Ed Brubaker is worth a peek too.
