A question about Doctor Who Season 6
(Anonymous) 2015-04-28 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)In Doctor Who season 6, Amy is kidnapped by Madame Kovarian and replaced by a Ganger duplicate as part of a plot to kill the Doctor by taking her baby and turning her into an assassin. Okay. Yeah. Sure.
Now, my question is basically about the timeline of the kidnapping. As I understand it: We don't know for sure when Amy was switched with the Ganger duplicate, except we know that it had to come after the conception of their daughter (which IIRC happens after their wedding) and we know it had to come sometime before the first time when Madame Kovarian shows up in the random peepholes to Amy - which is when Amy is exploring the haunted house in Florida with all the Silence in it and she finds the nursery. So all we know is that it happened sometime between the end of season 5, and that specific scene.
1) Am I correct in that timeline? Like, is there anything I'm missing there? Do we ever find out when she got replaced?
2) Is there any reason on earth that it had to be done that way? This is what confuses me - at the end of that scene, Amy gets kidnapped, and then later get rescued from the Silence. Is there anything in the storyline that would make it not work for her to have been replaced by a Ganger duplicate at that time? It just seems so much more elegant that way, and it's really confusing to me why they didn't do it that way.

2) And nope. No, there wasn't.
I think the general fan consensus is that she got kidnapped replaced in that three month gap between the first episode and the second, when they've all been split up and investigating the silence. Of course, the reason why they split is never revealed, but there you go.
TBH, season 6 is my least favorite of Moffat's run for these reasons (I actually enjoyed season 7 a lot better). There are a lot of holes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9Q5baJ223M
