It's not just Monsanto. Chipotle is doing this as a PR move. Their 1,000-calorie menu items are just as much part of the problem as industrialized agriculture. But most GMO products are developed to aid production methods that harm environmental factors such as water use, soil sustainability, and habitat loss. It's a tough problem.

It's tougher because by solving one environmental problem, you create others: no-till, which is billed as a BMP for combating erosion, isn't really feasible without a whole mess of pesticides to deal with the pathogens, insects and weeds that would otherwise be dealt with by tillage.
