I agree with you, I wish my brain would work right. It's working better now than it was before, but that's partially with the help of meds, so I don't know. I wish I didn't need the meds at all. And I get your frustration with this attitude because a lot of these things are illnesses and they negatively impact people's lives. No one would suggest it's being prejudiced to say physical illness is bad, but mental illness gets treated like it's something different, and I think that's actually really harmful and makes it harder for the general public to see mental illness for what it really is.

I also get upset when discussions like this happen because a lot of times only certain kinds of disabilities or mental conditions are treated like they count, and the same people who will talk about how harmful ableism is will tell you to shut up and sit down and that your experiences don't matter or aren't comparable. Well, if we're talking about disabilities where the brain is working differently, then actually it IS comparable. So don't act like you're (general you) all noble and just when you dismiss me for not having the right kind of condition.

Yes, exactly. Mental illness isn't a bad thing and it doesn't make someone a bad person, but it's stupid to pretend that it's just a different way of viewing the world instead of an actual brain issue. I'm happy for the people who have accepted their mental illness or condition and are comfortable with it, really I am, but fuck, don't act like it means there's nothing wrong with your brain.
