Maybe he's less vocal about his philosophy in person?

You could try Gumtree. I've seen a few posts about meeting up for walks together before the million paws walk for the rspca.

Alternately, you could start your own group and have a sharks vs. jets musical showdown at the park.

Gee I hope so. This particular meet and greet is after I had asked for some kinda quiet one for my dog, so I'm not sure this isn't a swipe at the operant training I mentioned she's going through (cause she's a scared abused traumatised dog who needs help learning good and appropriate city dog behaviour) and he blathered on about natural dog behaviour and doesn't seem to grasp not all dogs are raised from puppyhood in nice calm environments and 'naturally' walk around the city off lead.

Yeah, natural behaviour isn't always positive. Things like fear aggression are natural behaviours. It's dangerous to have even the sweetest tempered dogs around other dogs and people if they're easily frightened or overwhelmed and don't have any guidance on how to act.
