I understand the fear that it's pointless and a lot of work for nothing. Why not try to simplify your MV ideas and break them down so it's less daunting?

For instance, you could do the MVs as storyboards, as another commenter suggested. If you can't draw well enough for storyboards, why not try doing mood/inspiartion boards for your ideas? These are all real tools professionals use. They don't jump straight in either.
