Uh...as a huge West fan..."unreservedly"? Haha....um, no.

The West Wing is like the political equvalent of a superhero movie. It is not meant to be remotely related to reality. It's about superficial wish-fulfillment fantasy and great characters. And you know what? I've never seen a fan of it claim otherwise. All the ~b-b-but idealism is so dangerous!!11~ concern-trolling has come from non-fans who seem bizarrely convinced (without any justification I've ever seen) that fans take this shit at face value and think politics is really like that. When actually, the concern sounds like telling people that superhero movies are awful and dangerous because that fact that they posit some people have powers that are superior to others promotes racial supremacy or something. It's just gonna get you a blank stare from fans.

If there's something WW fans *are* annoyingly over-serious about, it's Sorkin's dialogue. It's fun, but 70% of its quality comes from the actors managing to deliver really weird-sounding stuff with conviction. You only have to compare the scene clips with the transcripts to figure that out...
