Sounds awesome, I've never tried fresh eggs.

They're delicious! If you ever have a chance to, go for it.
People worry so much these days about germs and diseases, but you're usually going to cook them anyway. I'll admit I ate them uncooked in dough sometimes and I never got sick.

Chickens that have room to do so tend to like to keep their laying spots clean and soft, and feeding them antibiotics when they're not sick and spraying their living areas down with chemicals just seems unnecessary to me. We cleaned out the poop and gave them fresh bedding every week, and they were happy and healthy ladies. We also separated the hens we uhh.. introduced to the rooster. There were no incidents of anyone cracking open an eating egg and finding an unborn chick.

Sounds lovely!
I think that keeping animals happy whenever posssible is the way to go, so free range is nice from this standpoint.
Did you get woken up by the rooster, btw?

It's certainly a better feeling when you're the one handling them. I couldn't imagine working anywhere that uses cages like that.

Usually I woke him up! The chooks were on the racing side of the stable, so I was down there before sunrise to feed the horses, usually making lots of noise because it's quicker to stick the hay on the metal wheelbarrow and bounce it down the hill over all the rocks. Clang clang clang alllll the way down. Chooks were grumpy because I wouldn't feed them until I was done with both sides of the stables and all the connected paddocks.
