I wonder how many people here decrying being pain for unoriginal stuff think people should pay for Dante's Inferno.

It's literally self-insert fanfic where Dante goes on a journey with a real life guy he idolized and a real life girl he liked.

Aren't his works in the public domain now?

(Anonymous) 2015-04-30 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
The point is, it's one of the most well-known self insert fanfics ever, but people treat it like it's so different.

it's not a fanfic AT ALL so... yeah, it is different.

and he certainly didn't infringe upon someone else's creation in which they were making money from and had rights to. unless you're going to really dig at the bottom of the barrel and try to tell me that catholic mythology (and more like folk belief since this shit ain't from the bible) is somehow equivalent.

lmao you are really trying to push this Dante's Inferno thing aren't you.

It's not a fanfic. It wasn't even a fanfic at the time he wrote it. Putting people you know, or public figures, or historical figures, in your work doesn't make it fanfic. like, how is your brain even going there... nevermind, I don't want to know.

I think its the weird conflation of fic and RPF, even though the laws governing the two things are VERY different
