Fuck you, this is bullshit. "It's a joke" is not an excuse to choke people. If someone assaults you physically, then calling the police is an appropriate reaction.

If the man thinks its okay to choke people as a joke, then he needs to learn that it's not okay. If that means getting the police called on him, than that's what it means. The world is not going to stop and coddle you for having a fucked up sense what's okay.

In the real world if you assault someone physically they will call the police, even if you say its a joke.

Actions have consequences.

The very definition of assault is a physical assault. Physical assault is defined as intentionally or knowingly causes physical contact with another and a reasonable person would regard the contact as extremely offensive or provocative. In Kansas the law on assault states: Assault. Assault is intentionally placing another person in reasonable apprehension of immediate bodily harm.

OP was alarmed at the physical assault from the professor, and took the correct measures. Even if it was joking he did not have the right to touch OP in such a way, and especially not to mock such a violent acct.

We were not friends. We were not "friendly". We had a student-teacher relationship. He never touched me before the incident of putting his hands around my neck.

FYI, friends/family choking each other as a joke is most often seen in cartoons with slapstick. It's not something common in real life.
