Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP is a weird little point-and-click where you play a warrior woman out to end the evil from her people's legends. Written and programmed by Canadian indie devs, its story is partly navel-gazing or similar in the vein to old Japanese video games (Mother for instance) but with a self-aware sense of humour. It's got some very soothing and nifty music by Jim Guthrie.

The Stanley Parable. Also weird.

"Analogue: A Hate Story" is a Korean VN you can also get on Steam, and it's one where you are a space person figuring out what happened to this derelict ship by going through its records and talking to the AIs. There were some pretty important people on this ship, like royals and debutantes or something, and all this family tension stuff. I'm not actually finished this game though, but it was recced and given to me by a friend who also gave me the sequel to it.

Ittle Dew. It's totally a Zelda clone, and it makes no secret that it's an homage. However, it's also just funny. Even the bosses are funny (one dude says something mysterious in another language, and the MC just goes, "Okay :)" without knowing wtf he just said).

Also, the Sam & Max games by Telltale. The first season is great imo, as is Devil's Playhouse. They're not as completely reliant on nonsense puzzle-solving, and it's good about giving you hints and nudging you in the right direction if you get stuck.

I don't know if it was made in rpgmaker, but check out Cthulhu Saves The World. You are Cthulhu, and you are a hero ♥

ooooh hey you should also play Charles Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden. it's free and the best. Actually a good game for real.

For an actual game made in rpgmaker, have you ever tried Yume Nikki? It's pure exploration of a girl's eerie dream. Nothing is laid out for you, no directions given, and you pretty much "progress" by trial, error, and getting lost. It gets creepy I suppose, but it's the general atmosphere of the game.
