I think perhaps this distinction is not as strong to everyone else as it is to you. I also don't think this is a distinction that the law makes. Copyright violations and the like aren't defined as transactions made with the general public and not a private individual. It's simply that private transactions are more likely to pass under the radar. Or is that what you mean when you say it's "okay"?

Yes, that's what I meant. The chances of a company caring about one person commissioning someone else for a piece of art or fic are next to nothing. What they WILL care about is someone selling large amounts of fic or art to the general public.

Whoops, hit enter too soon. Anyway, that's why I will take commission requests for things like, say, a piece of jewelry featuring the Bat Symbol, but I won't make a piece like that for general sale.
