Re: What a terrible last day.

Anon you're replying to.

That's similar to what I've seen. The details being that none of the people I saw do this jokingly have ever pressed down to cut off air, so as to not harm the person, and the shaking is always gentle, again so as to not harm the person. It wasn't taken as choking per se but rather a show of frustration.

I can't speak for what happened with you, though.

OP

If he had, as someone had mentioned above, pantomimed choking me, like an air choke, or if he had "pretended" to bash me over the head without hitting me, I would not be as freaked out.

He made contact, he put pressure on my neck, and it scared me. I don't care how frustrated he was, it didn't give him license to touch me, especially not like that.

Do people expect that for this to be really a problem, he should have like, what... choked me out? Thrown me to the ground? What do you want?

He touched me without permission, outside of the bounds of our established professional relationship, and I am not okay with that.

I didn't say it gave him license to touch you. I was replying to someone who asked if this happened elsewhere, saying I've seen it happen and how it was taken.

I'm not sure why you're asking me what I want. I'd like it if everyone stopped touching each other.

OP

I apologize, I didn't mean for it to seem like I was jumping on you. I was getting dismayed that people interpreted what I meant by "choking" was less explicit than what it really was.

My comment was more directed at others, not yourself personally. You just happened to bring up the specific nuances of choking, so I felt I had to clarify.

I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable.

I think the nuances may be what was confusing the other anons above, if they're describing it as common. They seemed to not realize the extent of the choking and if they're like me who have seen the joking kind happen before between people who are familiar with each other, they thought it was more similar to the obviously jokey kind and not, you know, as creepy as you described which sounds like a different situation altogether.

What kinds of people do you know, jesus this is disturbing.

Funny enough, most of them were upper middle class, middle-aged white people.
