I agree with you and I understand you wanted to say they shouldn't get on their high horse about it, but the way you put it gives me a really strange mental image of someone toking up on horse that never does what it is supposed to.

That was mostly deliberate wordplay on my part; I felt that the image conveyed the idea of something that's not only a bad idea to start with, but is being gone about in the wrong way to boot.
