Yeah, they should just provide me everything I want for free. It's not like they need to eat or anything.

I hope you realize that most of the people you're castigating for thinking fanfic writers "should just provide me everything I want for free" are probably fanfic writers themselves. Many of them have been writing fic for years, just for fun, and sharing it with other people for free--not because they don't need to eat (wtf, are they cyborgs?) or because they're rich trust-fund babies, but to be part of a community and share what they love with others who love it too.

Yeah, that right there's the picture of entitlement.

A lot of them started, though, when they were young and had shit provided for them, then grew up and needed to fend for themselves and frankly, living wage isn't a common thing. They love it, but it's an extra dime to help keep food in their stomach. Sorry that people, you know, age and have needs.

Is this a misfire?

(Anonymous) 2015-04-30 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
No. I sarcastically commented to them that they don't get everything for free.

I see you would like to believe that if people don't charge for fic, it's only because they have cushy, privileged lives. You are really, really reaching here, trying to guilt people with this "Waaaah, you don't want me to EEEEEEAT!" shtick.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-30 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I'm just pointing out how much of an ass you are. People monetize their hobbies because every goddamn penny counts when you're working minimum wage and people like you are the first to bitch when fanartists and ficwriters take up two extra jobs to make ends meet instead and thus have no time to give you your free OTP make out session art.

Drama queen comment.

"But, but, but, if I can't charge for my shitty fanfic I can't EEEEAAAATTT!!! Won't someone please think of the untalented????"

(Anonymous) 2015-04-30 10:40 am (UTC)(link)
You mean that's better than whining that "Everything used to be for FREEEE I'M NOT USED TO SPENDING MONEY ON SERVICES I WANT"

(Anonymous) 2015-04-30 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
da

lmao if you are charging money for your fic, then I absolutely do NOT want to read your fic. it probably sucks anyway. I've never heard of an actually good fanfic writer inquiring about charging money for fic, they are always the shitty ones who think they are better than they are - which kind of comes with the job of "stealing someone else's world and trying to make money off of it"

(Anonymous) 2015-04-30 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"stealing someone else's world and trying to make money off of it"

So 98% of fanart comissions

(Anonymous) 2015-04-30 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Also doujinshi.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-30 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
ayrt

Yep. My opinion does not only apply to fanfic.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-30 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
More like "I don't plan on spending money on the same services that I provide to others for free."

The rest of us in fandom write fic to be a part of the community and share what they enjoy with other fans. To get money for food and rent and action figures, we have these things called jobs--frequently shitty and ill-paid jobs. Please explain what makes you so special that you should get to stand around with your hand out, being paid for what the rest of us do because we love our fannish communities and want to keep them going.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-30 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I do work, but thanks. I'd just like the little extra cash because it means, you know, a bit more food on the table.

Why do you think people are planning on making a goddamn living off this instead of supplementary income? Because it makes you feel better about this?
